Capital E Kids Zone
Glover Park | 11am -6 pm, Saturday 24th
Visit Glover Park from 11am- 6pm on Saturday 24th Feb and join in the fun as Capital E create a Carnivale especially for young people and their families.
Children can assist in the creation of a cardboard box installation of Cuba Street under the guidance of leading artists Fifi Colston, Debz Ruffell and John Borley. Imagine boxes of all shapes and sizes coming to life to depict Wellington’s much loved and renowned street.
Alongside the installation will be an illustrated historical background of Cuba Street.
The whole family can have a go at making their own South American Mask with the help of artist and teacher Karen Carey. The masks can be taken home at the end of the session or children can parade them later that day in the Cuba Street Carnival Parade.
There’s also the chance to create your own drum and learn some South American Drumming Rhythyms. First make a drum out of everyday objects then learn some simple drumming techniques and become part of a bongo-band!
Side Step'd is a dance company that features some of Wellington’s hottest emerging hip hop dancers, aged 8 -14. The group has just returned from the Australasian Hip Hop Dance Champs. Taught by Gemma Laing from Virtue Dance, Side Step'd is a dynamic, energetic dance group that will perform throughout the day to South American beats.
Don’t miss this fantastic day full of fun for the whole family!
